4 lbs up????!!!!???? what the hay??

So I am not real happy. I gained 4 pounds! I do know my eating was less than perfect, but I do not think it was worth 4 pounds. My workouts are a bit less, due to my schedule and my shoulder. Ugh! So the plan is to be real diligent this week, and get a lot more cardio in and do some weights at nite. What do you all think?

Also, got this article on menopause, wondering the gain could be that.
An Active Approach to Managing Menopause
Get Moving to Relieve Discomfort

You’ve heard the jokes and the horror stories. But often, faced with the onset of menopause, most of us don’t know whether to laugh or cry. Luckily, if you’re determined to stay fit–or get fit– there’s no time like perimenopause to begin a sensible physical regimen.

Physical activity, the most effective alternative therapy available for women suffering menopausal symptoms, allows women to manage both their bodies and emotions. When you exercise, your adrenal glands are stimulated to convert the male hormone androstenedione into estrogen. Just four 30-minute exercise sessions per week are enough to keep you “topped off” with estrogen.

Regular exercise can benefit you in a number of ways as you pass through menopause: strengthening your heart and bones, avoiding or minimizing weight gain, improving your mood and sense of overall well-being. It also reduces the duration and intensity of those infamous hot flashes. In a recent Swedish study, researchers found that postmenopausal women who exercised were able to handle menopause without…

Changing behaviour

Got this in my email, and wanted to share it :)

Changing Behavior to Lose Weight

An ability to alter lifelong attitudes toward diet and exercise may ultimately be the key to successful weight management: You must be motivated enough to change habits not for a few weeks or months, but for a lifetime. The importance of this resolve cannot be underestimated.

The desire to lose weight must come from within. A person who wants to shed 20 lbs. to please a spouse is not likely to be as motivated, or as successful, as someone whose goal is to improve health or increase self-esteem. Choosing the right time to start a weight-loss program is also important. People under stress or pressure may not be able to devote the considerable attention and effort required to make lifestyle changes that lead to weight loss.

Culled from medical research, the following weight-loss guidelines incorporate strategies employed by people who have lost weight and kept it off. Use them in constructing a weight-loss program on your own or as an adjunct to medical or surgical treatments.

Weight-Loss Strategy #1. Set realistic goals. Remember that weight tables give estimates of ideal weights; you can probably be healthy at weights above “ideal” if you have a nutritious diet and exercise. Instead of attempting to lose a specific number of pounds, make it your goal to adopt healthier eating and exercise habits.

Weight-Loss Strategy #2. Seek support from family and friends. People who receive social support are more successful in changing their behaviors. Ask family and friends for help, whether this means keeping high-fat foods out of the house or relieving you of some chores so that you have time to exercise. You may be more motivated to exercise if you work out with a friend or family member.

Weight-Loss Strategy #3. Make changes gradually. Trying to make many changes quickly can leave you feeling overwhelmed and frustrated. Instead, ease into exercise; do not overdo it. Incorporate low-fat eating in stages. For example, if you typically drink whole milk, switch to reduced-fat (2%) milk, then to low-fat (1%), and then to fat-free milk.

Weight-Loss Strategy #4. Eat slowly. Many people consume more calories than needed to satisfy their hunger because they eat too quickly. Since it takes about 20 minutes for the brain to recognize that the stomach is full, slowing down helps you feel satisfied on less food.

Weight-Loss Strategy #5. Eat three meals a day, plus snacks. Skipping meals is counterproductive, as is severely reducing food intake, since such strict changes are impossible to maintain and are ultimately unhealthy. In addition, eating the bulk of your calories at one sitting may impair metabolism. You will be more successful in the long run if you allow yourself to eat when you are hungry, eat enough nutritious low-fat food to satisfy that hunger, and spread your calorie intake over the course of the day.

Weight-Loss Strategy #6. Plan for exercise. Choose activities that are convenient and enjoyable for you to do on a regular basis, and then treat exercise like any other appointment — set a time and jot it down in your date book.

Weight-Loss Strategy #7. Record your progress. Start a food diary and exercise log to keep track of your accomplishments. Keeping such detailed diaries may seem cumbersome, but they can help you stay motivated, and reviewing the entries can reveal any problem areas.

Weight-Loss Strategy #8. Evaluate your relationship to food. Behavioral and emotional cues frequently trigger an inappropriate desire to eat. The most common cues are habit, stress, boredom, sadness, anxiety, loneliness, and the use of food as a reward. Many people also relate food to love or care and derive comfort from it.

Weight-Loss Strategy #9. Recall your accomplishments. Over your lifetime you have probably been successful in tackling many difficult tasks — quitting smoking, learning a new skill, or advancing in the workplace, for example. Reminding yourself of past achievements can help you feel more confident about making the changes that will lead to weight loss.

Weight-Loss Strategy #10. Don’t try to be perfect. While losing weight requires significant changes in eating and exercise habits, not every high-calorie food must be banished forever, and you need not exercise vigorously every day.

I understand if you have medical issues which require you to take some pills, but too many look for an easy way out.

I know I am not gonna be real popular saying this, but I have been there, time and time again. You have to make this work, and no shortcut is gonna teach you the way to live for the rest of your life.

I love you all, and had to spill this.

Happy St Paddy’s Day!!

LuckoIrish1.jpg The Luck of the Irish image by rochelle56mHow are we all today?

Doing good here, they are having a potluck, but I brought my own lunch. Wearing my shamrock/bell earrings, and a green necklace. lol

So day 2 of starting over with Jillian, VERY sore!

Did do alot of walking too.

Ok, my frustration: Ted said I had an old lady haircut, and I don’t think so. I like it have been told and feel that it suits me. So what do you all think?

Anyways, into day 4 of the LoveDare, and it seems to be helping. Not anything dramatic, but the atmosphere is improving.

So, I had a real good therapy session last nite, she says I am doing real well dealing with my grief and all, but she warned that I may have a rough time with Mother’s Day, Father day, etc. I am sure she is right. So I am forewarned.

I wanted to join Anj and Nancy on the break from workouts, but right now I need them for my mood.

Any ways, sorry this is a ramble, have a great day!

Quick hello

Mondays are such a rush!!!

How are you all??

Doing good today, started on my new workout schedule. Had forgotten how tough Jillian is!

So determined to have a good week.

Well, I learned a valuable lesson on Friday, it was my cheat day and I binged on sweets! Did not feel good all weekend. So I have decided to go 2 weeks without processed sweets, diet stuff is ok.

I have to break the cycle, so now cheat will be one meal only and not sweets. Lesson learned!

Any hoo, taking a quick break, and I will be back later to read some blogs!

Hello!!!

How is everyone?

I am doing good, had a good yoga workout this morning.

Ok, why is it I do my best thinking in the shower?

It came to me that we are all survivors. This life has battered and bruised us all in various ways, but here we are, striving to be healthier in spite of what life throws at us, each and every one of you is a walking tribute to the human spirit!! So take pride in your endeavors!!

Love you guys!

Sorry I have not been able to keep up on blogs like I like to, just to much going on.

Well yesterday went to a fashoin show at church, was fun and the lunch was salad, but I still ate too much! Then they had cake, (thank God the servings were small) and the favors were M&M’s and I ate them!

Back on track today, not gonna keep sliding.

One of the cool things about the fahion show was they had all these clothes donated. So they let the ladies from a women’s shelter go first and get what they needed, and then they opened it up to all of us! I’m talking NICE stuff here. I got a dress, 3 blouses, 2 pairs of shoes, and a turquoise necklace! AND ALL the clothes were small size! I brought them home, and it all fit perfect! I do love being small, see what you all have to look forward to?

Any ways, I am doing better, had to revamp my workout schedule, just can’t keep getting up at 3:30. So I am doing the shred workout Monday thru Thursday morning, and then taking a break on Friday morning, Doing an hour of bootcamp on Saturdays, and an hour of weight loss yoga on Sundays. Then will do some weights, planks and pushups during the evenings.

Anyhoo, gonna read some blog to day I promise! Love you guys!

Let’s get honest here…

Ok, I know we are all striving for the same thing. To be healthier and more fit. But are we really serious about it in our everyday life? I see alot of people who talk it, but when you get down to it, make excuses for why they eat this or that.  You know I am not here to judge, but we ALL have challenges we face, be it, family, kids, spouses, physical handicaps, etc.

Does this excuse me to stuff something unhealthy in my mouth? We ALWAYS have a choice. Can’t work out? You (at least most people) can take a walk, and we all can drop that soda and drink more water.

Do we all want to live longer? Past that momentary pleasure in our mouths?

I hear alot of lip service about being healthy (believe me, I have done it, too), but until we get dead serious, nothing is gonna change. Sure, you may drop a pound or 2, but till you realize it is life and death, you will not change.

I am fired up about this, I want all of you to succeed. This is your life in your hands, you DO have a choice, no food, had ANY power of you. Please choose life!!

Ok, I got that out, Please take this seriously, the choice is yours.

Big HUGS, Kama

1. Diet Pills Increase the Risk of Vitamin Deficiencies

Several essential vitamins, namely A, D, E, and K, are fat soluble, meaning they are digested with fat and stored in your liver and body fat. One of the dangers of diet pills that block the absorption of fat is that these important vitamins can be shed from the body rather than utilized. Instead of using or storing the vitamins, your body treats them as waste along with the fat being attacked by the diet pills.

2. Diet Pills to Block Fat Absorption Cause Digestion Problems

Proper digestion is essential for optimal health, and anything that compromises your digestion compromises your overall health. Fat-blocking diet pills can cause oily stools, flatulence with discharge, loose stools, pain in the digestive area and other equally uncomfortable, unhealthy and frankly, gross side effects. So much for the sexy diet pill ads–you won’t feel sexy dealing with the digestive difficulties they cause.

3. Many Diet Pills Are Unregulated

One of the dangers of diet pills is that many hit the shelves without any oversight from the FDA. Often, diet pills sold as health supplements are completely unregulated, except for some oversight and restrictions on their advertising claims. In fact, several diet drugs have been recalled and pulled form the shelves after consumers’ adverse effects created an uproar. Problems aren’t limited to diet pills in the United States, either. One diet pill in Asia,
“Slim 10,” caused the deaths and serious illness of several women before it was recalled.

4. Know the Scary Side Effects

Side effects from diet pills are enough to make you think twice, or run in horror. Diet pills, depending on the type and list of ingredients, can cause heart problems, high blood pressure, liver problems, organ damage, headaches, nausea, increased heart rate, breathing problems, anxiety, restlessness, addiction to the supplement and stomach pain. When the side effects are worse than the problem the medicine is intended to solve, think twice before taking it.

5. Many Diet Pills Don’t Cause Weight Loss

Many diet pills don’t even live up to their claims to help you shed the pounds. According to Mayo Clinic, Chitosan, Chromium and Hoodia are among those listed as “unlikely to cause weight loss” or not having substantial evidence to support the claims. Some herbal diet pills are harmless (no side effects) but pointless (don’t cause weight loss). You’re better off spending your money on good nutrition and fitness gear.

Please don’t do this to yourself, they are harmful and can hurt you.

I used to take them and made myself real sick.

They should not be part of your journey to health, the best way to get there is by good, old fashioned hard work and sensible eating, no gimmicks. You are not doing yourself any favors by putting these chemicals in your body.

I am only saying this because I care. Please educate your selves on this frightening issue.

Love you guys.

I love this devotion!!

Talks about being a blessing which you all are so good at.

March 11
I will bless you [with abundant increase of favors] and . . . you will be a blessing [dispensing good to others].
Genesis 12:2

Every time you think anything good about anyone, verbalize it. People cannot read your mind. Your thoughts have power and may affect other’s confidence level in a minor way, but your words can really lift them up and encourage them. All people need affirmation, especially those who have been emotionally wounded or hurt by someone. We have more power than we realize we do. We can help people! Right words spoken at the right time have the power to heal, “A man has joy in making an apt answer, and a word spoken at the right moment—how good it is!” (Proverbs 15:23)

Not only are right words spoken at the right time good for others, they are good for us. We experience joy in building others up. We are created by God to be a blessing. He told Abraham, “I will bless you and make you a blessing.” We are blessed in being a blessing. God made you to be a blessing. Start being what you were made to be and you will start receiving what you are meant to receive!

Ok, I have to give a shout out to my “Tribe”. I was dealing with some relationship issues yesterday (Still am). But the love and support I got totally blew me away. Not sure what the outcome will be yet, but thanks to my support, I had the courage to talk some things out last nite.

Anyways, doing good today. Getting my OOMPF back, lol. I did 20 pushups last nite on the commercials with 2 min of cardio in between, did a total of 120 pushups!

Then this morning, was tired, so I slept in a little, and then got up and did Level 3 of the 30 day shred! Feel real good about my eating this week too.

So how are you all today? happy hump day!

Hi! doing good and did you guys see Fireproof??

You all need to check out the movie Fireproof. Saw it this weekend, and wow. I also ordered the Love/Dare book, too. So praying this will help my relationship. Had to let it go the last few months, but now need to work on it.

Doing good here, did my weight loss yoga this morning. A little tired from getting up so early due to taking the bus, but I will get used to it.

How are you all today?
