 Yay!! 5 days off from work!!! Hopefully will get recuperated and starting my workouts back up on Monday, have missed them! Well, I weighed myself this morning, was afraid to look, but when I di, I maintained!!! Any other time would be frustrated at that, but with bieng so sick this week was afraid of a gain! So, I will be happy with that! I hope you all are doing good and thanks for all the sweet supportive messages! You all rock!!! So get up and get it moving for me will ya? I’m with you in spirit! even though I can’t workout yet! I’m the little guy oon your shoulder that says “get up and move it!”

Good morning!!!

Happy Friday! I’m progressing along, still didn’t get to sleep until almsot 3!  My stomach is a bit upset, think the bug is running it’s course, finally. :???: I have set my workout restart for Monday. I should be back to normal by then by the way things are going.

Ok, how are we doing???? No slacking ok??? Don;t think I’m not keeping my eye on you!!! I know it is almost the weekend, but get moving!!! Don’t make me come looking for ya! You can do it!!!

Can’t sleep

Thought I would put some thought down. I get so depressed when sick, but thanks to WW, she set me straight and reminded me why I’m here.  I will NOT, absolutely will not let this sickness throw me off trakc! I AM A WILDCAT, and I WILL DO THIS THING AND SEE IT TO THE FINISH!!! Would be so selfish to waste this gift I have been given with this site and all of the beautiful people supprting me by just letting circumtstances get to me and make me cave. I won’t give in, hear me? I won’t give in!!! I have come too far to stop!!! Just because I got sick and have to respect it and my body does not mean I can quit!!! Yeah, I’m getting this feeling out so it doesn’t fester inside. I was at a meeting tonite, and a friend bought me a frappucino, and I drank it rather than hurt his feelings by telling him no. Another 200 calories! And it REALLY depressed me! I thought, What am I doing? I could see my self never having the gumption to work out again, or stay op(which I have for the most part), or anything! You know this is not like me! Well, I cam online thank God read reponses from you wonderful people, and then talked to WW, and I do feel better! My goal is to start my workouts back up Monday, sooner if I can. I’m Not going to let this get to me.

The cold meds make me feel nervous and unab;e to sleep, but I also think I needed to et this out. Thanks for bearing with me buddies, I love you all. And I give a very spoecial thanks to WW, who had to listen to me whine. Thanks agian!

She reminded me of why weare here, and this is the time we will do it, and see it to the finish. This will not be like all the other times we tried and failed. No, NOT this time!!! I need to get mad about it, and I am, because that is what keeps me moving, so with that on to victory!!! if this seems a bit scatered, it is due to cold meds and lack of sleep, lol. Ok, gonna try to go back to bed, will write more later.

Hey buddies

Here today, a little better. Still coughing up junk. Trying to catch up here and at work. If I don’t comment on all your blogs, rest assured I will try and read them all, still trying to navigate around this new blog system. Haven’t been able to workout since Monday, will try tomorrow, being careful since my chest still hurts. Well, you all have a good day, missed you all yesterday, stayed in bed.

Info on workouts when you are sick

Thought this info might be helpful

You wake up feeling tired, and get achy and stuffy as the day goes on. Should you make your regular gym time, or go home to your couch? Use the following tips to help you determine when you’re well enough to exercise and when you should be in bed.
  1. Do you have a fever? Are you achy and fatigued? If your body temperature is over 98.6, you may be fighting an infection. When you have a fever, you are supposed to rest, drink liquids and wait for your body’s immune system to beat the germs. Exercising with a fever will only make you sicker or keep your sicker longer, and could even kill you. People have died of heat stroke or heart failure when ignoring their bodies’ pleas to stop.

  1. Do you have diarrhea? Are you nauseous or even vomiting? Then, what are you thinking? You must be really sick if you’re thinking about doing a workout in your condition. With diarrhea and vomiting (as well as fever) come dehydration; get thee to your home, and if you’re not better tomorrow, to your doctor.

  2. Is your throat sore? A sore throat is usually a sign that something infectious is going on. It might be the dreaded strep throat, complete with pain and a course of antibiotics, or maybe you’re getting a cold that you will freely share with all in your workout environment should you continue your exercise program. As a public service, as well as a way to keep your immune system stronger while under attack, reach up, up for that can of chicken soup.

  3. Let’s say you’re sick. Cold, flu, nasty cough, stomach issues all call for a break in your routine. Take a couple of weeks off, until you’re totally well, and then resume training at about half speed for a couple of days before trying to power up. Exercising while you’re still recovering should be relatively gentle; take your time.

  4. You are not Superman, even if you look like him. You can’t “power through” if you’re sick. It’s risky to even try. Now, where are those fuzzy slippers your mom made you last year? Where’s your teddy bear and that DVD of Casablanca?

  5. It’s just a cold. If you don’t have a fever but are just feeling stuffy and snotty and lousy, cheer up! You can still exercise if you want to. Just try not to touch anything or breathe on anyone, okay?

  6. Prevention. Exercise can help you keep from getting sick in the first place. But in flu season, try to use the gym when it isn’t too crowded with sneezing, snuffling Type-As who will infect you with more than their enthusiasm for a brisk workout.

  7. Don’t forget how to exercise. Sometimes a long bout with injury or flu can get you out of your routine and turn you into a couch potato. Don’t let this happen! Call in all your resources, get with a trainer or your best buddy and get back on track once you’re healthy.

Bronchitis

Very sick today buddies  Running a fever and feels like I’m coughing up a lung. No workouts this morning, too sick. Please say a little prayer for me, don’t want to go to the ER or have a dr bill. Using my inhalers and breathing treatments, (yes, I have asthma) so hopefully will be ok. The good thing is, I don’t have much of an appetite  That should help since I can’t workout till the fever goes away and I can breathe better. Well enough about me, I hope you all have a great day and keep kicking!

Olive oil’s health benefits

The greatest exponent of monounsaturated fat is olive oil, and it is a prime component of the Mediterranean Diet. Olive oil is a natural juice which preserves the taste, aroma, vitamins and properties of the olive fruit. Olive oil is the only vegetable oil that can be consumed as it is - freshly pressed from the fruit.

olive oil

The beneficial health effects of olive oil are due to both its high content of monounsaturated fatty acids and its high content of antioxidative substances. Studies have shown that olive oil offers protection against heart disease by controlling LDL (”bad”) cholesterol levels while raising HDL (the “good” cholesterol) levels. (1-3) No other naturally produced oil has as large an amount of monounsaturated as olive oil -mainly oleic acid.

Olive oil is very well tolerated by the stomach. In fact, olive oil’s protective function has a beneficial effect on ulcers and gastritis. Olive oil activates the secretion of bile and pancreatic hormones much more naturally than prescribed drugs. Consequently, it lowers the incidence of gallstone formation.

Olive oil and heart disease

Studies have shown that people who consumed 25 milliliters (mL) - about 2 tablespoons - of virgin olive oil daily for 1 week showed less oxidation of LDL cholesterol and higher levels of antioxidant compounds, particularly phenols, in the blood.(4)

But while all types of olive oil are sources of monounsaturated fat, EXTRA VIRGIN olive oil, from the first pressing of the olives, contains higher levels of antioxidants, particularly vitamin E and phenols, because it is less processed.

Olive oil is clearly one of the good oils, one of the healing fats. Most people do quite well with it since it does not upset the critical omega 6 to omega 3 ratio and most of the fatty acids in olive oil are actually an omega-9 oil which is monounsaturated.

Olive oil and colon cancer

Spanish researchers suggest that including olive oil in your diet may also offer benefits in terms of colon cancer prevention (5). Their study results showed that rats fed diet supplemented with olive oil had a lower risk of colon cancer than those fed safflower oil-supplemented diets. In fact, the rats that received olive oil had colon cancer rates almost as low as those fed fish oil, which several studies have already linked to a reduction in colon cancer risk.

Types of olive oil

Generally, olive oil is extracted by pressing or crushing olives. Olive oil comes in different varieties, depending on the amount of processing involved. Varieties include:

Extra virgin - considered the best, least processed, comprising the oil from the first pressing of the olives.
Virgin - from the second pressing.
Pure - undergoes some processing, such as filtering and refining.
Extra light - undergoes considerable processing and only retains a very mild olive flavour.

When buying olive oil you will want to obtain a high quality EXTRA VIRGIN oil. The oil that comes from the first “pressing” of the olive, is extracted without using heat (a cold press) or chemicals, and has no “off” flavors is awarded “extra virgin” status. The less the olive oil is handled, the closer to its natural state, the better the oil. If the olive oil meets all the criteria, it can be designated as “extra virgin”.

What is pure and light olive oil? “Pure” olive oil is made by adding a little extra virgin olive oil to refined olive oil. It is a lesser grade oil that is also labeled as just “olive oil” in the U.S.

“Light” olive oil is a marketing concept and not a classification of olive oil grades. It is completely unregulated by any certification organizations and therefore has no real precedent to what its content should be. Sometimes, the olive oil is cut with other vegetable oils.

How to care for your olive oil

Resist the temptation to place your beautiful bottle of olive oil on the windowsill. Light and heat are the #1 enemy of oil. Keep olive oil in a cool and dark place, tightly sealed. Oxygen promotes rancidity. Olive oil is like other oils and can easily go rancid when exposed to air, light or high temperatures.

You can of course buy extra virgin olive oil in any grocery store. A good source on the internet for extra virgin olive oil is here.

Olive oil versus canola oil

Do not fall into the hype which is put out by traditional medicine regarding the promotion of canola oil (rapeseed) as superior due to its concentration of monounsaturated fatty acids. Olive oil is far superior and has been around for thousands of years. Canola oil is a relatively recent development and the original crops were unfit for human consumption due to their high content of a dangerous fatty acid called euric acid.

If the taste of olive oil is a problem, or if you are frying or sautéing food, then you should consider coconut oil. Many nutritionally misinformed people would consider this unwise due to coconut oil’s nearly exclusive content of saturated fat. However, this is just not the case. Because it has mostly saturated fat, it is much less dangerous to heat. The heat will not tend to cause the oil to transition into dangerous trans fatty acids.
